Frequently Asked Questions

Can't find your answer? Send us a message.

Who are these experiences for?

Anyone curious about wild food, local plants, and where their food comes from. No experience required. Classes are designed for total beginners and experienced foragers alike — Yuda meets people where they are.

How big are the groups?

A maximum of 8 participants per class. This is intentional — small groups mean more one-on-one time, more questions answered, and a much better experience in the field.

What should I bring?

Comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dirty, closed-toe shoes or hiking boots, water (at least 1 litre), sunscreen, and bug spray. Yuda will bring all tools, field guides, and any cooking supplies needed.

Where exactly do classes meet?

Exact meeting points are shared 48 hours before your class via email. Classes take place in rainforests, shorelines, and natural areas across Oahu, Maui, and Kauai.

Are children welcome?

Yes — children 10 and older are welcome with a participating adult. Younger children can be accommodated for private experiences; contact us to discuss.

What if I have food allergies?

Let us know when booking. Yuda is a trained chef and takes dietary restrictions seriously. For cooking classes, we will work around any allergies or intolerances.

What is the cancellation policy?

Full refund if cancelled more than 7 days before the class. 50% refund for cancellations 3–7 days before. No refund for cancellations within 72 hours. If Yuda cancels due to weather or emergency, you receive a full refund or free rebooking.

Do you run classes year-round?

Yes. Hawaii's climate means foraging is possible all year, though what you find changes seasonally. New class dates are added regularly — sign up for the email list to be notified first.

Can I book a private class?

Yes. Private classes for 2–8 people can be arranged for a flat fee. Contact us with your preferred date and group size and we'll put something together.

Do you offer gift cards?

Yes — gift cards are available and redeemable for any Follow the Wai experience. Visit our gift card page to purchase one, or email us at aloha@followthewai.com.

Is foraging legal in Hawaii?

Foraging on private land requires landowner permission. On public land, rules vary by area. Yuda only takes classes to locations where foraging is permitted, and always practices ethical, low-impact harvesting.

How do I book a private dinner or event?

Use the inquiry form on the Private Events page. Yuda responds within 48 hours to discuss your event, check availability, and plan a menu around the season.
